Dr. Sarah Kim was born in Edmonton, Alberta but spent most of her life in Calgary, Alberta. She obtained a French bilingual high school diploma before graduating from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. Shortly thereafter, she went on to pursue a Doctor of Optometry degree at the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) in Fullerton, California and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. At SCCO, she was highly involved with several on-campus initiatives, such as being the Vice President of the National Optometric Student Association (NOSA) and coordinating educational outreach programs in low-income areas and organizing Optometry information sessions for undergraduate students at nearby colleges. She was also elected President of the BSK National Optometric Honor society, where she facilitated both tutoring and mentoring to lower classes.
In addition, Dr. Kim helped facilitate inter-graduate collaboration between the Pharmacy, Physician-Assistant and Optometry programs, as the Education Committee Chair of her school’s student council, as she believes inter-professional cooperation is a crucial part of successful patient care. She volunteered annually at health fairs in the Los Angeles and Orange County area, as well as at the annual Special Olympics where she provided eye exams to athletes.
While at SCCO, Dr. Kim was exposed to several facets of optometry, including ocular disease, specialty contact lenses and pediatric optometry. Across her multiple externships, she treated various ocular diseases at the Southern Nevada Veteran Affairs Hospital and HuHuKam hospital in Sacaton, AZ. As a result, she gained invaluable experience in treating and managing various cases of retinal, corneal and systemic diseases, in addition to specialized pediatric care situations.
Dr. Kim is currently an active member of the Alberta College of Optometrists, Alberta Association of Optometrists, Calgary Society of Optometrists, and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. She is very excited to be back home in Calgary to provide excellent healthcare for you and your entire family. Her hobbies include cooking, baking, trying new restaurants and watching movies. Her passion to provide great vision for the greater Calgary community has been a driving factor in her decision to enter the Optometry field and she cannot wait to help fulfill your vision needs. Dr. Kim is also able to provide eye exams in Korean.
