Dr. Vivian Fung was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Calgary in 2010, earning a Gold Medal and a Silver Medallion award upon graduation. She furthered her studies at the University of Waterloo Doctor of Optometry Program and graduated on the Dean’s Honour List in 2014.
During her internship, Dr. Fung received extensive training in ocular disease with a specialty in glaucoma at the Eye Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City. She also had the unique experience of working alongside Family Medicine Residents to learn a more integrated approach to patient care during her rotation at the University of Waterloo Satellite Optometry Clinic in Kitchener, ON. Following that, she returned to Calgary where she trained under Dr. George Fung at Browz Eyeware & Eyecare until she joined the practice in late 2014 (here she is known as “the female Dr. Fung”, surprisingly not related to Dr. George Fung!).
Dr. Fung’s love of patient care and travelling brought her to Ecuador during her schooling. Here she was part of a volunteer group that provided optometric services and free eyeglasses to those with limited access to this type of care. She hopes to partake in many more volunteering opportunities in the future, both around the world and within her community.
In her free time, you will find Dr. Fung attending a hot yoga class, sitting down with a good book, eating her way through the new and exciting restaurants of Calgary, or spending time with family and friends watching movies, playing board games, or solving puzzles at an escape room.
Dr. Fung is a member of the Alberta College of Optometrists, Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Calgary Society of Optometrists. She is fluent in English, as well as Cantonese and is able to provide services in Cantonese when needed. She is always welcoming new and existing patients who require optometric care and looks forward to serving the residents in and around Calgary for many years to come.
